The Bode & Nike Collaboration Celebrates a Rich Tradition of Sports

Both sharing an appreciation for sports heritage and a desire to serve all athletes, Nike and Emily Bode Aujla, designer and Bode founder, come together to birth a new apparel and footwear collection that honours and progresses sports and recreation traditions.

The collection features eight apparel styles, including track jackets, thermals, pinnies and dickies, jerseys, woven shorts, trousers and two reimagined pairs of the Nike Astrograbber shoe. When visiting the Department of Nike Archives in the early days of their partnership, Emily was interested in exploring silhouettes that had been transformational to sports, and ultimately fell for the Astrograbber. She was drawn to the fact it’s Nike’s first turf shoe to feature an innovative waffle sole that was developed in response to the introduction of synthetic turf.

Reviving the iconic 74’ football shoe for the first time, the Bode x Nike ‘Black’ Astrograbber features a smooth leather exterior with a contrasting swoosh that glides across the lateral and medial sidewalls. The ‘Natural,’ on the other hand, goes for a beige canvas look and complementary suede overlays. Both sneakers feature a custom Bode branded tongue tag that's done up in Nike's old font and they sit on a pair of Waffle midsoles, just like the OGs from way back when.

Bode Aujla says the collection was inspired by her father’s strong connection to team sports, student-athlete pride and its influence on the community, and Nike’s commitment to constant innovation and listening to athletes as well as the storied coach-athlete relationship between Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight.

Overall, a beautifully executed collaboration with a rich story that will undoubtedly be documented in footwear history books sooner or later. We hope this is just the seedling of a partnership between Bode and Nike that will grow and blossom for many years to come.
